Dimitra Laina is an artist and independent researcher based in Athens, Greece. She studied Contemporary Art Practice at Gray’s School of Art, RGU, Scotland, and participated in the Visual Arts programme at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, Germany. With an interest in the fluid possibilities of the art–site relationship, she pursued postgraduate studies in Berlin, earning a Master’s in Spatial Strategies from Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. In 2024, she received a practice-led PhD from the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds, England, for her thesis Acts of Enclosure and Acts of Dissent: The Case of Greece in an Era of Austerity.

Process-driven and contextually based, her practice is currently engaged in artistic research that examines the modes of operation of enclosure and foregrounds counter-practices of emancipatory commoning and grassroots struggle.
